My guest today is Austin filmmaker Bryan Poyser. Bryan's career began to take off with the premier of his short film Pleasureland, and then took a giant leap with the controversial feature Dear Pillow, featuring native Texas talents Rusty Kelley, Gary Chason, and Spanish transplant Vivien Vives.  Since then, he had gone on to write and produce higher-budget films like The Cassidy Kids, but he continues to make short films aimed primarily at the festival circuit. Bryan also serves as Director of Artist Services for the Austin Film Society.

My guest today is Dallas-area film writer Mike Maden. Mike is the co-creator of the pheonomenonally successful Web show PINK THE SERIES, which has almost 6 million hits on YouTube, and can also be seen on many other Web sites, including the WB.com.  Mike is a Texas writer who has lived and worked in LA, but it was his work with fellow Texan Blake Calhoun on Pink that earned him a deal with L.A.-based production studio Generate, and production deals with Warner Bros. and Hollywood wunderkind McG.

Austin-area filmmaker Cheryal Loosmore, is organizer of the 2009 Austin Film Race, a 24-hour national film competition (www.filmracing.com).  She was one of the principal instructors at the Houston Media Source (www.hmstv.org), where she taught both adults and kids about the art and craft of filmmaking.  One of the group's most popular programs was and is the HMS Summer Video Camp for young filmmakers.  Cheryal has worn all the hats in her filmmaking exploits, and recently completed and sold two short behind-the-scenes documentaries, which are being pressed for DVD distribution, including one based around fellow Austinite Travis Knapp's feature film, "The Sno Cone Stand," starring Tony Sirico and Morgan Fairchild.

Dallas-area filmmaker Blake Calhoun is one-half the team behind the incredibly popular Web show Pink:The Series, which has received over 6 million hits in the last 18 months, and two Streamy Awards.  Pink's success helped lead Blake and writer Mike Maden to a contract with Hollywood's United Talent Agency, and production and distribution deals with L.A.-based production company Generate, headed by former WB chief Joran Levin.

The pair recently formed a new company called Alternative Fuel, at www.altfueltv.com, and their newest project is Exposed, a Web series, and possibly a TV show, for WB Network.

"After a mysterious event aboard the International Space Station, a small group of people wake up to realize their entire lives have been a lie.  They are, in fact, aliens disguised as humans. Now they have to make a choice: live amongst men, or try to find a way back home."

That is the synopsis of my guest's current movie, EARTHLING.  Originally from New York City, Clay Liford is an independent fillmaker, who now makes his home in Dallas, Texas. He has at least 19 film, television, and video projects in the can, as either writer, producer, director, editor, or cinematographer.

You can see his most recent work behind the camera for David Lowery's beautiful-looking ST. NICK, which premiers this week at SXSW Film Festival.

Liz Atherton was a financial analyst and Project Manager for large companies before purchasing a fledgling talent agency in the suburbs of Austin, Texas, 16 years ago. Since then, Liz has built the former Ciao Talents into one of the premier Texas talent agencies. Under the new moniker The Atherton Group, or TAG Talent, the company recently opened offices in Los Angeles, Louisiana, and New Mexico. It appears 10th on a list of IMDB's "power" talent agencies, ranking ahead of much more established players. She is an early member and sponsor of the Texas Motion Picture Alliance, which is working to attract feature film and television production to Texas. She is a wife, and proud mother of four wonderful children. She's also my agent. Download the episode free from iTunes, or check the show notes, and download directly from here.

Jon Keeyes left Hollywood so that he could become a filmmaker. His "American Nightmare" is a fixture in the cult horror scene, and in "Living and Dying" (released by HBO), he directed top actors like Edward Furlong, Michael Madsen, Jordana Spiro, Arnold Vosloo, Trent Haaga, and yours truly.  Now a staple of independent Texas productions, ranging from $50,000 to $1.2 million, and most recently a new media venture for Warner Brothers, Jon's is a true Cinderella story.

Jon cast Curtis as the lead villain in the HBO-distributed film "Living & Dying", an action-suspense film in the vein of "Pulp Fiction", but with more gunplay.  :-)   The film was shot on 35mm in Dallas, Texas, and stars Edward Furlong, Arnold Vosloo, Jordana Spiro, Bai Ling, Trent Haaga, and features a host of Texas talent (Libby Villari, Brady Coleman, Brandy Little, and more), plus an botana platter of international acting stars.

Ben Taylor has 19 produced stage plays, screenplays and teleplays.  He is a former staff writer for HBO's "The Hitchhiker" series, and an actor, to boot.  After 14 years in the Hollywood trenches, Ben fled L.A. for Atlanta, where he used his own money to write, direct, and produce his own award-winning film on Super 16mm.  After making his way to Austin, Ben has established himself as one of the ATX's premier acting and writing coaches. Curtis discusses how he broke into the business, and how wearing all these different hats has informed his writing, acting, and teaching; and what is next for Ben Taylor.

First episode of the only podcast devoted exclusively to interviewing the movers and shakers of the Texas film industry (including television, commercials, video games, interactive, new media, and stage).

This first week host Curtis Wayne (www.curtiswayne.com) interviews feature director Joe McReynolds and DP Javier Garcia about the making of their film, "The Vern".

EMBARASSING CONFESSION:
The Texas Film Hall of Fame inductees that Javier referred to can be found here.  The RGV director he referenced was McAllen native Catherine Hardwicke (a "she", not "he"- sorry, Catherine!).  Gawd, how embarassing!!!
